FRUITBATS & SCREWBALLS
Deborah Wilkinson is an ethical fashion designer from Yorkshire who has also caught the attention of international fashion pundits after the launch of her debut collection in Liverpool last year
She has had no formal training but after her collection was posted on instagram she received comments from the daughter of Vera Wang. Deborah taught to sew from a very young age by her grandmother who spent all of her working life in the very finest Jewish tailoring establishments in Leeds working her way up to head machinist and chief pattern cutter.
She left her job 2 years ago and started sewing from her home and is now looking to supply couture boutiques across the region. she uses the finest British made textiles and is keen to send out that message that all her material is ethically sourced in the UK.
" I was taught from a young age that cheap clothes come at a cost and most often that goes hand in hand with human exploitation /sweatshops and a great lack of respect towards nature the one thing that sustains everyone. My grand mother was very much in touch with what was happening within the tailoring trade and use to talk about it as it effected them as they started to lose work to over seas to cheaper and un ethical factories and she spoke of child labour way back then just before she retired. I learnt early that cheap is not good to humans or the earth.

MAMMA MANCO
MAMA MANCO is a British designer with Peruvian origins. owner Victor Carpio says, "Every summer holiday I would travel to Peru to visit my family and every time I would travel I would return with strong withdrawal symptoms, because Peru had infected me with its vast beauty and incredible richness and variety in terms of its food, landscapes, textiles, resources, artisan and culture. I would feel obliged to share my experiences with my friends to give them the closest sense of what I felt when I was there, I felt so amazed by the place and had so much affection for Peru that I wanted them to be there even though they were not."
This feeling and enthusiasm for Peru remained and as I became an entrepreneur, I saw the opportunity held by Peru with its quality materials and its deep culture. Therefore using my initiative and skills I created a medium to bring these two worlds together and deliver an offering that extracts these expert goods to generate the experience of the Peruvian culture looking through a European lens. We strive to from a community, sharing music, art, artisan goods, clothing, food, through organised events and the power of the internet.
The affection I have for Peru motivates me to nurture it and improve the development of the country. Unfortunately there is a lot of work to do but a drop in the ocean still creates a ripple; we organise humanitarian projects to improve the wellbeing of citizens of Peru and alleviate the poverty and rise the hope of the people. The power of the ripple can transform into a wave, let us ride the current as a unit to reduce the distance of the idealistic world and the one we live in.

She has been designing fashion jewellery ever since, supplying numerous High Street fashion brands throughout the years.
